| Seventeen year old Emma Povey of
“Collingwood” Colinton continued her showing with another successful
outing at the 109th Queanbeyan Show in November, where she came away with,
firsts for Best Presented Mount and Rider, Best Educated, Pleasure Hack,
Lady’s Hack, Lady Rider 17-20yrs, a second in the Open Hack and Emma also
won the Champion Lady Rider. Emma and her six year old Australian Stock Horse gelding, Ravenswood Regent bred by Kim and Michael Blyton ‘Ravenswood ASH Stud” Colinton, have been together since “Trapper” was a yearling. After assistance (from Michael Blyton) with the initial starting of Trapper, Emma has continued to train and campaign her boy with great enthusiasm. Emma has an absolute love of horses. She started riding when she was nine, on her pony Chester Cookman (“Cookie”), and in 2000 gained a 2nd Place in Pony Club pairs at Canberra Royal. As vice president of the Monaro Branch Australian Stock Horse Society, Emma was actively involved in the organization and running of the ASH Feature Ring at this year’s Cooma Ag Show. Emma is a member of Michelago Pony Club, is a guest instructor at Cooma PC and has judged at local shows. She enjoys sharing her knowledge with younger riders, helping them to develop their skills. When not campaigning her own horse, Emma can be found helping others with their horses, from taking green youngsters on their first outings, assisting with training, preparing for shows and riding in the ring. During the 2003 State of Emergency Fires in the Monaro area, Emma assisted as a volunteer member of the Fire Control Centre, Cooma. Emma has always strived for her personal best, and does so with enthusiasm and enjoyment. Some of her short-term goals for 2004, were to compete at Canberra Royal (2nd Novice 2D, 3rd Prelim 1D under 17yrs, 3rd Led ASH gelding >4yrs >15hh, 5th Ridden ASH Snaffle rider <17yrs, 1st Ridden ASH gelding >4yrs) and EFA Horse of The Year (2nd Young Equestrian Hack 15.2<16hh).
